Migraines can be debilitating, but acupressure offers a drug-free method to help manage the pain. By applying pressure to specific points on your body, you can often find significant relief. If you’ve tried acupuncture or are looking for a simple at-home remedy, these four acupressure points may provide the comfort you need.
1. Yin Tang (“Hall of Impressions”)
Located on your forehead, right between your eyebrows, this point is known for its calming effects. To use it:
- Gently place your index finger or thumb on the point between your eyebrows.
- Apply light pressure while taking deep, slow breaths.
- Continue for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, making small circular motions.
2. Jian Jing (“Shoulder Well”)
Found at the top of your trapezius muscle, halfway between your shoulder point and the base of your neck:
- Use the fingers of your opposite hand to locate the point on the top of your shoulder muscle.
- Apply firm, circular pressure with your fingers while breathing deeply.
- Repeat for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then switch sides.
3. He Gu (“Joining Valley”)
This point is on the back of your hand, in the muscle between your thumb and index finger:
- Press the point with the thumb of your opposite hand.
- Apply circular pressure while breathing deeply and slowly.
- Do this for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then switch hands.
4. Nei Guan (“Inner Gate”)
Located on the inner forearm, about 2 inches above the middle of your wrist:
- Find the point between two tendons on the inner part of your arm.
- Use the thumb of your opposite hand to apply gentle pressure in a circular motion.
- Continue for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then switch arms.
Curious About Acupuncture for Migraines?
If you’re considering acupuncture for migraine relief, it’s worth noting that most people feel only a slight sensation or nothing at all during treatment. Acupuncture needles are very thin, and many patients find the experience relaxing enough to fall asleep.
At the Acu Lounge, we focus on natural pain relief and use acupuncture to help the body release endorphins and stimulate the body’s natural healing responses. Visit us to explore how acupuncture can be a part of your strategy for managing migraines and enhancing your overall well-being.
